Paris: News Briefs from Lucioles #8 and #9

from Lucioles, translated by waronsociety:

Lucioles [Fireflies] is an irregular newsletter containing texts of analysis and agitation in Paris and the surrounding area and analysis of everyday life from an anarchist perspective. We discuss different manifestations of insubordination and attacks in which we can recognize ourselves and uncover potential rupture against the State, capitalism and domination in all its forms by attempting to connect them each to everyday life. We do not desire to represent anyone or defend any particular piece of territory which is a scale model of this shit world.

“You see fireflies because they fly in the night. From the view of normality, the rebellious are light against a society as gray as pacification. The problem is not the fireflies, but the night.”

News Briefs

1,2,3… April 4th, in the 7th district precinct, a pig killed himself. The second, another pig, in Denain (59), also ended his days. The same day, in Saint-Germain-Laxis (77), the same story: this time around it is top cop Noël Rabin’s turn to free the world of his presence. We’ll be looking forward to more news in the coming days… Meanwhile, you can easily enough snatch some champagne from the Couronne Monoprix. [Monoprix is a bourgeois supermarket in the poor neighborhoodof Belleville/Couronnes]

Fire to the court! During the night on Monday, April 8th, someone set fire to the Commercial Court of Beauvais. A window pane was broken and an incendiary device was thrown inside. Unfortunately, the court continues its activity, although some records have gone up in smoke.

Vinci architect forced to go green. At the end of March, Jacques Ferrier, an architect chosen by the Vinci group to participate in the development of the new airport planned in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, near Nantes–“one of the architects most engaged in sustainable development,” according to the proponents of this new pile of concrete–found his office (77 rue Pascal, Paris 13th) painted with fire extinguishers. The colors? Green like the forest, and brown like sh…

Fuck the guards! Four guards of the Bois d’Arcy prison are recognized by former detainees in a nightclub in Yvelynes on February 17th. They are suitably beaten.

Fuck the guards’ unions! On January 28th and February 3rd, the windows of the CGT locals in the 19th and 20th arrondissements were smashed in response to protests of unionized guards, in solidarity with the prisoners in struggle at Roanne and others.

But who could possibly hold a grudge against the banks? During the night of February 10th, around fifteen ATMs on the rue Belleville found themselves inoperable due to glue in their card slots.

Your teargas hurts, huh? On March 8th, around forty young troublemakers broke into the McDonald’s in the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines shopping mall. The pigs intervened but a few minutes later, a new confrontation broke out in front of a store. According to the pigs, “One of the youth threw a security guard against her car as she was handcuffing another suspect. It was then that the one who had managed to free himself punched the tear gas canister held by another officer.” The canister then exploded in the pig’s face; she received serious burns to her face and eyes.

Clippings

January 14th: No power for the bougie! In the night, a fire broke out in an ERDF [the public electrical company of France] office in Levallois-Perret and knocked out power to 70,000 households in Levallois and Neuilly.

February 14th: Because of a transformer accident, a part of the neighborhood Chaperon Vert, in Acrueil, was without power for around 24 hours. Same as above.

February 24th: The burning of an electrical system along line U (La Verrière-La Défense) of the Transilien [suburban rail service] completely blocked the passage of trains. A switch box and a computer that control the lights, switches, and security system were burned. Today, not a puff! And tomorrow, the bus…or not?

March 4th: Again in Acrueil: One block was left without electricity due to a burned underground cable.

March 5th: Créteil and the surrounding area: Around 60,000 EDF customers were without electricity for one hour. A short-circuit on an extremely high voltage line buried in the ground, probably from being struck during an excavation at a construction site. The electricity is provided by connecting the network to another THT [high tension] line.

News Briefs

I hate power
On April 5th, around fifteen shots were found to have been fired into the public office of the Socialist Party [currently the ruling party] in the 15th arrondissement. On May 2nd, the windows of the Socialist Party office are smashed. In the storefront, the party’s cute little militants wrote a message on a placard: “political violence is an affront to democracy.” Clearly, yes. So, let’s smash democracy.

I hate the police
On April 24th, some pigs were hit with stones in Vigneux-sur-Seine (91), in the Croix-Blanche neighborhood. A paving stone hit a pig in the head and sent him to the hospital in serious condition. The skillful stonethrowers remain unidentified.

I hate the police, too
Weekend evening in the center of Paris. During a traffic dispute, a toughguy gets out of his car and identifies himself as an off-duty police officer…He finishes his evening in an operating room have his liver and lung stitched up. Brilliant analysis from the pig union: “This is an act of hatred against the police.” Three people were arrested.

Find the right cable!
Some cable breaks in two equipment rooms of French Telecom deprive a thousand subscribers of telephone and internet service on April 25th in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Maisons-Laffitte (78).

Missed opportunities…
In late April, a homeless man who was rummaging in the trash found a small arsenal at place de Stalingrad . An automatic pistol, four grenades, some cartridges and a tank warhead, all of them in perfect working condition. The weapons belonged to a deceased collector, and the family threw them out. Unfortunately, the vagrant–a good, obedient citizen–called the police…

Child’s play
On May 7th in l’Oise, two fifteen year olds were suspected to have sabotaged the TGV Lille-Paris line and were arrested by gendarmes [Military police]. They lodged concrete slabs on the rails of the TGV line heading toward Lille-Paris. A TGV, which was on a journey between Lille and Rennes, was “severley damaged” after hitting the concrete at 2:45 PM. It was immobilized on its way to check the train and left at a low speed in the direction of Paris. This act resulted in delaying five TGVs for about thirty minutes, and the Lille-Paris train had to be removed. How little it takes to disrupt the flows of the herds and of goods–only one must get away faster.
