from vla, transl waronsociety:
At 1 PM yesterday, March 26, a 104-line bus belonging to the business Alsacia, was burned in the intersection of Macul and Grecia, in front of the Metropolitan University of Education Sciences.
A group of between 10 and 15 encapuchadxs (hooded individuals) in black made the passengers get off (around 20 of them) and then had the driver of the oruga-type bus block the street with the machine. Then, he got off.
With molotov cocktails it took only 2 minutes for the bus to be reduced to ashes, causing losses of 100 million Chilean pesos.
Upon the arrival of the police, the group retreated into the university, from which they attacked the pack of hired thugs.
During the encapuchadxs’ retreat, personnel from the Carabineros Police Intelligence Section (DIPOLCAR) who had infiltrated into the university, followed 3 youth and arrested them at the corner of Máximo Jeira y Eduardo Castillo Velasco.
These are two 17-year-olds whose initials are D.A.S.M. and F.I.S.P., students of License Application. The other arrested is Raúl Ponce Gutiérrez, a 19-year-old student of Engineering in Transport at UTEM, who was incarcerated in the Santiago 1 Prison and faces maximum penalties of 10 years for arson. The minors, captive in a SENAME center, face 5 years.
The Public Ministry announced that there is sufficient evidence to press charges, and to moreover order raids on the youths’ houses, in which the police, according to their words, found material for creating molotov cocktails, something which we absolutely do not believe. The only evidence that the Prosecution has are the statements of the DIPOLCAR agents, which is to say, only testimonies and no visual proof.
On March 27, the group that really attacked the bus issued a statement that is available here (in Spanish; we will translate it soon).
From VLA we call to always be attentive, police infiltration in universities is nothing new, much less in Cordón Macul, and even less so in the night-time activities of the Day of the Youth Combatant [March 29]. Always cautious! Always careful!
We express our solidarity with the arrested and we are awaiting updates.
