At 11:40 pm on December 20, a group of about 20 encapuchadxs carried out a road blockade from the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH), specifically in the exit from Matucana and Romero streets. Once the police started to show up, a group moved toward the main entrance of the university, at the corner of Alameda and Matucana, where in addition to cutting off the main street, they threw a series of molotov cocktails at the tree that is put up every year in the Mall Paseo Estación.
The action was claimed as an attack on the mass consumption that justifies itself in the so-called “end of year celebrations.” They also remembered political prisoners and comrades fallen in the struggle, including Sebastián Oversluij.
It was during the riots that a squad of Carabineros Special Forces charged at the encapuchadxs, managing to arrest nine of them.
The next day at around 2:00 pm and with a room full of police (6 of them in uniform) and press, the nine arrested compañerxs (mostly 19 years old) were charged for serious disorders. They were defended by members of the Washington Lizana and María Rivera Popular Defenders. They were all released under strict conditions, except for the 19-year-old compañero Felipe Adasme Troncoso.
Felipe was charged for serious disorders, infraction of the Arms and Explosives Law (for supposedly carrying 12 molotov cocktails and a knife) and for attempted homicide of a police officer. This, because according to what the thugs stated it was Felipe who, while being arrested, stabbed the miserable Special Forces officer who tried to take him down and who ended up with minor wounds.
Because of this, Felipe remained in preventive prison during the investigation period.
